Our duty to Stewardship

In this particular time, when Haiti is in such a disastrous situation, we all should be so grateful for what we have. We have been given a place to live, food to eat, heat to warm us and people who we can turn to when we need help.

Everything we have has been given to us as a gift from God. We can argue “well, I worked hard for this” or “I had to pay for that”. That’s true, but if we hadn’t been given life, breath, strength, and ability we would not have been able to do anything. We have a duty to take care of those things (water, food, clothing, sanitation, medicine) that we have been given. There is a sacredness to all that has been given to us from God. Do we treat what we have with reverence and respect?

We spend time taking care of our clothing, our homes, our food and our vehicles. That’s good stewardship. Do we take care of our church with the same diligence and energy?

The people in Haiti don't have a church building anymore. We turn to our churches for many things, one of them being record keeping. Who is keeping record of all those people who are buried in the mass graves? Our beautiful church and the people in it are a gift, to be treated with reverence and respect. As stated before, we should be so grateful for what we have.
