Saint’s Corner
St. Blaise
On February 3rd we celebrate the memorial of St. Blaise, who is the Patron Saint of those with throat diseases. Not much is known about St. Blaise. What we do know is that at a young age, St. Blaise studied philosophy and became a physician. Later he was ordained a priest and became the Bishop of Sebaste. While being arrested by order of the Governor Agricolous, St. Blaise was asked by a mother to heal her baby who was suffering from a disease of the throat. Through the intercession of St. Blaise, the child was cured. St. Blaise was tortured and died a martyr about the year 320. He is listed as one of the fourteen Holy Helpers.
