Saint’s Corner - St. Matthew

On September 21st we celebrate the Feast of St. Matthew, apostle and evangelist. Matthew was a tax collector (despised by the Jews for collaborating with the Romans) who left all that he had to follow Jesus’ call to be an apostle during the second year of his public ministry. He witnessed many of Jesus’ miracles and accompanied him on his journeys. Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, St. Matthew wrote his gospel account of the events surrounding Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. He is believed to have preached Christ in the nations to the East before he was martyred.
