Saint’s Corner - Pope St. Clement I

St. Clement lived in the first century and was the third Pope of the Church. He met and talked to Saints Peter and Paul while they were yet on earth. He is responsible for the conversion and baptism of many early Christians as well as the forming of dozens of churches. He is especially famous for a letter that he wrote to address problems with the church in Corinth during the persecution of the emperor Domitian. His letter was written so beautifully and so pastorally that St. Clement is known as the first of the Apostolic Fathers. Although the exact date of Saint Clement’s death in the year 99 is unknown, as are the circumstances, he is nevertheless venerated as a martyr in the Church.
