St. Stanislaus

April 11th we celebrate the life of Saint Stanislaus who was born on July 26, 1030 at Sezepanow in the diocese of Krakow, Poland. Saint Stanislaus studied canon law and theology for 7 years in Paris before returning home. After the death of his parents, St. Stanislaus gave away his inheritance and was ordained a priest. He was appointed to serve in the Cathedral and shortly thereafter became the vicar-general. In 1072, he was appointed bishop of Krakow. In 1079, he excommunicated King Boleslaus II for his wicked lifestyle. Shortly thereafter the King found Saint Stanislaus in a small chapel and ordered his guards to kill him. When they refused, the king murdered Stanislaus himself. Saint Stanislaus is the patron of Poland.
