Saint’s Corner

St. Monica

On May 4th we remember St. Monica. She was born in 332 A.D. in North Africa. Her example of Christian patience and prayer brought about the conversion of her husband, mother-in-law, and son (St. Augustine). Augustine had been living a very wicked lifestyle which pained his mother immensely. St. Monica tried many times to bring about his repentance and baptism to no avail. However, she never gave up hope and continued to pray for him year after year until his conversion. St. Monica is a great example of Christian perseverance and is the Patron Saint of abuse victims, alcoholics, difficult marriages, housewives, widows, and disappointing children. She died in 387 A.D. in Ostia, Italy.
