Dressing the Chalice for Mass

By RH

Do you know what items are on the chalice when it is brought to the altar during Mass? First, there is a cloth called a purificator, which is used to cleanse the chalice after the Precious Blood has been

distributed. Second, there is the Paten, which holds the large host that Father uses during Consecration. Third, there is the Pall, which is a solid square and is placed over the host, then after Consecration, over the cup of blood, to keep dust or any impurities off the host and then the blood. Fourth, there is the Corporal, a cloth which is placed on the altar before Consecration, to collect any pieces of the Consecrated Host that might fall. On top of all this could be placed a Veil. This is usually a cloth that matches the vestments the priest is wearing during that season or celebration.
