40 Days of Lent…
40 Days for Life…
By Rita Murdock
We are alive and counting the days to the end of our Lenten fast, almsgiving, and penance, and extra prayers. We anticipate being a better person, spiritually, and even physically, for the Resurrection of the Lord: Easter. HOWEVER, our Lenten sacrifices should not end. We are in constant need of renewal. We constantly need to be nourished by Jesus through the Eucharist and forgiven by Him, through the sacrament of Penance/Confession.
We should plan to continue good Lenten practices. And if we
have gotten a bit lax already or haven’t begun, right now is the beginning of
the rest of your life. A very real way to live these 40 days of Lent is to get
involved with the 40 Days for Life campaign. There is a website to “sign-up”
officially as a witness to life.
www.vigilcalendar.com/wausau, but you don’t need an invitation. Go to the
Family Health Planning Services building (719 N 3rd Ave, Wausau)
Monday-Friday 6 a.m. to 6 p.m and join the “pray-ers”. We are praying that,
with God's help, this effort will mark the beginning of the end of abortion in
our city -- and throughout America. Too busy during the week - consider
Saturday and Sunday 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Marathon County Court House 500 Forest St.
Wausau.
While all aspects of 40 Days for Life are crucial in efforts to end abortion, the most visible component is the peaceful prayer vigil outside Family Planning Health Services and Marathon County Court House. You can help make a life-saving impact by joining our local vigil. Not comfortable standing in public prayer? Pray at home and with your family certainly, but also make an effort to pray at our Adoration Chapel. This may be the best thing you’ll do in preparation for Easter.
Be thankful that God has time for us…throughout these 40 days of fast and pentence….God said, ‘let there be light’. Let’s be ready for the light of Resurrection on Easter Sunday.
