What do you have
too much of?
By RH
In the February 2009 Stewardship magazine, a quote from St. Augustine struck me. He said: “Find out how much God has given you and from it take what you need; the remainder which you do not require is needed by others. The extras of the rich are the necessities of the poor. Those who retain what is superfluous possess the goods of others.”
This quote gives me the incentive to go through closets and drawers to see what I am holding onto that could (and should) be used by someone who needs it. If you have closets that are overflowing, garages that are so full you can’t park a car in them, drawers that are full of things that you no longer use or need , perhaps now would be a good time to no longer ‘possess the goods of others’.
Sometimes we hold onto things ‘in case we need them’. If you haven’t ‘needed them’ in the past 2 - 3 years, chances are you will not need them. In this time of economic crisis, there are so many people who are in need of so much, even in our own area. Could it be possible that you are holding onto things that would be better used by someone else?
