Vacation Bible School

By Mike Lambrecht

This year’s Vacation Bible School was entitled Saint Patrick and the Holy Trinity and ran the mornings of August 3rd-7th. In case you haven’t heard, this year’s VBS was a great success. This year, we had 49 children registered to participate with an average of about 40 showing up each day. This was up from 35 children registered last year and 18 the year before.

We began each day by gathering in the church hall and learning some songs with actions, led by Sara Zieglmeier. Afterwards, there was a daily skit which taught about the life of Saint Patrick. We would conclude the morning gathering with prayer and then send the children off to different areas for fun and learning.

Steve Martin read the children a story from the life of Saint Patrick each day. Afterwards, he would teach them a lesson based on the events of the story. He also taught the children the Bible memory verse daily so that they would remember the theme of the day.

Joy Frystak helped the children construct a fun craft each day that they could take home to remind them of the experience they had. Some examples were mitres, snakes, sun-catchers, celtic crosses, flying pigs, and much more. Many children commented to me on how much they enjoyed making the crafts.

We would break for a delicious snack around 10:00 each morning prepared by Marcy Stenstrom. The snack usually had a green theme to it in honor of Saint Patrick. There were many children who asked for seconds and I even saw a few get thirds.

Rachel Dozer had the children burning off all kinds of energy in our games and activity area. They played musical chairs, tug-o-war, had scavenger hunts, and all kinds of other fun and excitement.

Each day would end with us gathered together once more for a little more music and prayer.

In addition to all of the adult volunteers mentioned above, we had 11 teen volunteers helping out by leading the children from area to area. I would like to express a very heartfelt thanks to the many people who volunteered their time and efforts into making our VBS a wonderful experience of fun and learning for all who attended. In a very special way, I would like to thank Ted and Mona Fox for once again sponsoring our VBS and making it possible for us to offer the entire program at no cost to the participants. We hope to see even more faces next year.
