Upcoming 2009-2010 CCD School Year
By Mike Lambrecht
In case you missed our parent meeting, I wanted to give you some important information regarding the upcoming school year which is just around the corner. In talking with the catechists, we are excited to once again have the opportunity to aid your
children in their faith formation. If you haven’t yet registered your child, please stop by the parish
office Monday – Friday from 8:30-4:30 to register. If you are unable to stop by during these times, please call the Religious Education Office as soon as possible to schedule an appointment to register.
You will notice several new changes this year. Perhaps the biggest change of all is that all Wednesday evening classes will now run from 6:15-7:45 PM. There will no longer be an earlier start time for classes with Mass. This uniform start time will cut down on some confusion and give the catechists a few extra minutes to teach their lessons each week.
Furthermore, there will be no Confirmation this year as we have moved Confirmation back to tenth grade to better prepare the students for this wonderful sacrament. As such, ninth graders will also be attending class on Wednesdays during the school year.
Starting in November, all first through fourth grade students will attend the 9 am Mass as a class once a month. Father Janusz will direct his homily at these Masses directly at the students. The first and second graders will meet on the first Sunday of the month while the third and fourth graders will meet on the second Sunday of the month. Parents of children who can’t attend the Mass need to call the R.E. office as usual.
We also have a free kindergarten program that will be starting this January. If you have a child in kindergarten and are interested in this program, please call the R.E. office to register. More information will be sent out towards the end of
November regarding this new program.
For the parents, this year we are offering a wonderful study called “Epic: A Journey through Church History.” I would encourage you to continue your own education in the faith by attending.
Lastly, all of these changes have been made to help us give your child the best religious education that we can. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me at 359-9006. Please keep the students of St. Therese in your prayers throughout the school year.
