Treasures
By Rita Murdock
“Do not
lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy
and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in
heaven,
where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and
steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21)
The New Year
continues and our resolutions of improvement may be forgotten. Let’s reconsider
these “resolves”: Will their accomplishment be treasures we want to reveal to
another? Who? Will it last? What is it worth to you? To your family? What are
you unwilling to give up to reach your goal? God is waiting to help us. He knows
us. He created us with strengths and weaknesses.
In spite of “free will” decisions that are contrary to the treasures God wants us to have, He loves us. Let us accept His mercy and grace. Receive strength for the job of building up lasting treasure by going to the sacrament of Confession and attending Mass and receiving Our Lord frequently in Communion.
