Server Saturdays are Back!
By Mike Lambrecht
We are now entering into our third year of having “Server Saturdays.” Having been around for a couple of years now, most of you are probably aware, to at least some degree, of what these are. However, there may still be a few out there who may want to know exactly what takes place because they are new to our parish or missed some of the announcements.
“Server Saturdays” take place about once a month during the school year. They give boys and girls who have been trained in how to serve an opportunity to brush up on their serving skills or to learn something new about the church. In order to do this, we meet in the church at 10:00 am for about a half hour to forty-five minutes. This gives us our learning opportunity. For example, we could go over what is taking place during the Mass, (from how to hold the Sacramentary to how to set the altar, ring the bells, use incense, etc.), or we could talk about the liturgical seasons, the liturgical colors, feast days of Saints, or anything else that pertains to the Church.
After a little learning, we all head over to the school building to have some fun in the gym. We play such games as kickball, dodgeball, basketball, or soccer. This gives the servers a chance to develop friendships and have some fun in a safe environment. Free pizza and soda is also provided by the parish.
Our next Server Saturday will be next weekend on Saturday, October 10th from 10 am until noon. There is no cost to attend but a permission slip is necessary and may be picked up in the R.E. Office. If you have any questions, please call me at 359-9006. I hope to see you there.
