Green, Yellow or Red
By: Joy Frystak
Our eldest daughter Reagan started kindergarten this past fall. It has been a lot of fun listening to her tell us stories about things that happen at school, about new friends, and how much fun her teacher is. Along with all of this, Reagan has brought home new “house rules” for us. Rules like when she wants to say something she announces, “one, two, three, eyes on me.” Or when she reminds us to use good body basics while sitting at a restaurant. Her
favorite thing is to grade us at the end of every day, we are either on the green, yellow or red. The first time she put me on the red was over a bowl of ice cream that I would not allow her to have for breakfast. Since then, I have spent many a day on the red, per her, along with our two year old whom apparently NEVER uses good body basics. Our middle daughter Veronica, despite being told she is on the green for that day, has such an aversion to the color she purposely puts herself on the red. And daddy, of course, is always on the shiny GREEN. As comical and ridiculous as this may seem, I ask myself at the end of every day where did I land today? More often than not, my color doesn’t match up with Reagan’s assessment, however, it is a little self-check that I have grown to rely on. It serves as a reminder in all aspects of my life to achieve green. So I ask you, where were you today?
