God is love and he loves us
By Rita Murdock
“God is love and He loves us.” This is the theme of recent readings anticipating Pentecost. Because He loves us He sends the Holy Spirit to be with us until the end of time.
Moral relativism is prevalent in today’s world. The world and the flesh become our god. However, our created gods are temporary, false, and can never fill the void in our being that is only completed by God, our creator, the only creator.
The devil exploits and deceives and rejoices at our attempts to find love and fulfillment apart from God. St. Clare of Assisi says “Do not let the false delights of a deceptive world deceive you.” St. Thomas Aquinas said that “nothing created has ever been able to fill the heart of man. God alone can fill it infinitely. So let us turn to God for love.”
In times of loneliness, fear, frustration, & anxiety turn more to God. Empty yourself by fasting and praying. Pray for yourself, the souls in purgatory, conversion and others. Turning yourself to others allows us to see the goodness of God. Charity is love. Fasting from those material and physical pleasures that bring only temporary joy allows us to be open to God’s love. So try a fast day when you are down. Rise early for morning prayer, when the sun goes down drop to your knees and invite someone to join in a rosary-the second most powerful prayer after the Mass. Sacrifice a bit of your time to visit Jesus with your cares in the Adoration Chapel. He is present always for each of us. God is almighty, everlasting, healing, and merciful because He is love. “Our heart finds rest solely in God.” St. Francis de Sales.
