Don’t Miss Out on Adult Education

By Mike Lambrecht

I know what you’re thinking. I’ve already been confirmed. I know all I need to know about the Catholic faith. I’m here to tell you that this is not the case. As adults, you have a grave responsibility to hand on the faith to your children. The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us that “Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children.”1 That is why it is so important that you continue your own education in the faith. The more you know, the more effective catechist you will be for your children and for those whom you meet in the world.

If you are still reading this, then there is a pretty good chance you might be interested in what we have to offer. First of all, every second Sunday of the month through December there will be a presentation in the church hall from 6-8 pm. The next ones are on the Papacy, Reconciliation, the Liturgical Year, and the Communion of Saints. These are wonderful opportunities to brush up on your knowledge of the faith and ask any questions you may have.

Secondly, we would once again like to offer adult education during CCD on Wednesday evenings. This would give you an opportunity to stick around after dropping off your kids for a little learning yourselves. This takes place in the “Youth Room” of the school building from 6:15-7:45 pm.

Lastly, but certainly not least, we are offering “Epic: A Journey through Church History.” As Catholics, we are heirs to a remarkable heritage. The history of our Faith is so much more than a list of facts and dates. It is a fascinating story of adventure, rebellion, tragedy, and triumph. A story 2,000 years in the making, one word best describes Catholic history: Epic.

This is a captivating and fast-paced look at the story of the Catholic Church. Beginning with the lives of the apostles all the way up to the present day, Epic takes the immense history of the Church and simplifies it into twelve, color-coded time periods. In the course of twenty sessions, participants learn about the major people, places, and events that comprise the captivating story of Christianity. This study provides participants with an understanding of Church history that enables them to have a greater sense of meaning and identity as Catholics. An informational meeting for Epic: A Journey through Church History will be held on Thursday, August 27th, at 6:30 pm in the church hall.

Please consider joining us for one or more of these opportunities to learn more about our faith. For more information, or to sign up, please contact me in my office at 359-9006. Thank you.
