Worship

By Liz Wiskowski

We all want to worship our Lord. Why? Because He is the one true God, creator of all things including us. Because of His love for us which is beyond our understanding. Because of his greatness, His faithfulness, His Holiness. Because of His miracles which happen everyday. Because He is our salvation. Because He commands it of us. The first 3 commandments ask us to remember not to have false gods, not to take His name in vain, to keep holy the Sabbath. Psalm 148 says: Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise Him in the heights above. Praise Him, all His angels, praise Him, all His heavenly hosts. Praise Him, sun and moon, praise Him, all you shining stars. There are many ways to worship. First we must open up our hearts and minds and get to know Him. Pray, listen to His word. Read the bible. Study the catetchism. He promises that if we seek Him, we will find Him.

Bowing down or genuflecting are signs of worship. Kneeling is a sign of reverence, standing shows honor, singing His praises, an offering, are all signs of worship. Sometimes silence is best. Simple, quiet awe. Trusting Him to tell Him all of your problems, and ask for His help is another sign of worship. So is praying for others.

Drop into the chapel and spend some time in His presence. Say the rosary. Say little prayers throughout the day as you work or drive. One of the greatest ways to worship our Lord is to use our time, our talents, our resources, to help those in need. Just do something kind for someone. So you see, worshiping our God is not just going to Sunday Mass, but can become a habit in our everyday life. Try it.
