We Are Praying

By: Joy Frystak

I have good news and bad news. The bad news is there is a Hell on earth. I know this because I just spent 5 LONG days there with my in-laws. We were surrounded by what I can only describe as flying Satan spawns that attacked at every opportunity.  Lots of things went bump in the night, extremely unsettling creatures were seen creeping around pine trees, and there were these half lobster half crab type man eaters swimming in the lake. I prayed desperately to get the you know what out of there.  Here is where the good news comes in. While I sat in my lounge chair, surrounded by bug netting in an effort to keep the evil from biting my skin and seeping into my bloodstream, I read everything I could get my hands on to make 120 hours go by as quickly as possible. I stumbled upon an article that focused on how people are dealing with the economy. Make a plan made the top of the list at 47%. The number two response coming in at 43% was through PRAYER! While some may look at this percentage and think, “only 43%“, I found it hopeful.  The article did not say how many of this 43% group were partial to pray prior to economic hard times, but none the less, if 43% are praying now, I’ll take it.  While many families continue to face hard times and tighter budgets, as Catholics, we can be proud that 43% believe first and foremost, that God is with us and only gives us what we can handle. I barely made it out of what I now call Lake Hades, but the prayer article reminded me that God was still with me. He was just using his sense of

humor again
