Faith
By Father Janusz
In our daily lives, once in a while we have a question about our faith, we have doubts, we wonder what we should do. Maybe we should escape, maybe forget, maybe listen to something louder so we can’t hear it in our head anymore. Maybe we think it is not right to think about this kind of question.
To find the answer for these questions, first we need to focus on God. We find His existence in the Bible, in the practice and worship of many nations through the centuries. (Book of Wisdom 13:1-5) “For all men were by nature foolish who were in ignorance of God, and who from the good things seen did not succeed in knowing him who is and from studying the works did not discern the artisan…”.
In Warsaw in the Ghetto during the Second World War one of the prisoners left this sentence on the wall: “Lord God, You have made everything, to stop me from believing in You, but this did not work!” People can be divided into two groups: one with strong and deep faith and one without faith. The group with faith tries to find answers for everything that happens to them and involves God in it. The second group tries to interpret everything to prove that God does not exist.
What is faith saying? The bible does not have any doubt, people who believe in this trust in God. Believe that God loves us and He wants to lead us to eternal life and happiness. The person who believes is the one who does everything to put all that comes from God into daily practice. People who discover this know and feel safety, happiness and peace. This is what they experience.
These who become believers are asking questions:
¨ Abraham-What if there are five less than fifty innocent people? (Genesis 18,28-Abraham intercedes for Sodom.)
¨ Samuel-Samuel answered “Speak for your servant is listening”. (1 Samuel 3,1-10)
¨ Isaiah-He went to escape from call, vocation which God offered to him. (Isaiah 6,1..)
¨ Jeremiah-”I know not how to speak; I am too young.” (Jeremiah 1:6)
¨ Mary-But Mary said to the angel “How can this be?” (Luke 1,34)
We too must ask questions of God. The doubts in faith lead us to look for answers, what to do, how to react, what to choose?
Some people say faith is searching for God, looking for His picture. Our faith is one of the hardest to profess because we have to think and connect our words and deeds. Thinking helps to bring up the words of the Lord, and our memory collects our rich experiences.
