Conversion

By Liz Wiskowski

We often pray in our petitions and our prayers for the conversion of sinners. But what does this really mean? In this context, conversion, or to convert, means to change from one faith to another. We all have children, grandchildren, siblings, or friends who have let their faith grow lapse. Maybe they attend a different denomination, or don’t believe or practice their faith at all. We are praying that they come back to the one true Church.

In my heart, I feel that it applies to me too. Whether it is an accumulation of little sins, or a mortal sin, we are all pulling away from God. We are losing the graces that He wants to give to us. When I go to confession, I feel as though I am converting back to Him, who is waiting for me with open arms. Oh, what a wonderful feeling it is to know that I am once again close to Him and can receive the graces He pours out! These graces help me to live my life the way He wants me to. To me, that too is conversion.
