Are you ready to answer the call?
By RH
It always amazes me when I hear the story of Jesus calling the first apostles. They immediately
answer when He says “Follow Me!” They left everything! He was calling fishermen. Why
fishermen? Why not field workers or tent makers?
During Mass, we sometimes sing the hymn “The Summons”:
Will you come and follow Me if I but call your name?
Will you go where you don’t know and never be the same?
Will you let My love be shown?
Will you let My life be grown in you and you in Me?
Will you leave yourself behind if I but call your name?
Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same?
Will you risk the hostile stare?
Should your life attract or scare?
Will you let Me answer prayer in you and you in Me?
This is a beautiful hymn with a lot of meaning. Jesus is talking to each of us. Do we just enjoy
singing the words and then forget about it as we leave Mass?
Are we ready to answer the call? Are we ready to give up our own will to do His?
