Anticipation

By Rita Murdock

From Father Cantalamessa, Papal preacher, ”The Christian novelty consists in this, which distinguishes it from every other religion or religious philosophy, every religious proposal begins by telling men what they must do to save themselves or to obtain "illumination." Christianity does not begin by telling men what they must do, but what God has done for them in Christ Jesus. Christianity is the religion of grace. We are not saved by good works, though we are not saved without good works. “

Wow. This statement really captures the essence of our Catholic religion. Christ is the beginning and the end. Christ did first so that we can follow Him.  We were created by Him and for Him. The Catechism of the Catholic Church clearly teaches us by beginning not with morality or ethics, but with our history. We were created and the New Testament is preceded by the Old. But we have the “New”. So as advent approaches, let us prepare in waiting anxiously to receive all that we have been promised. Frequent the sacraments, even confession.  Add devotion to Mass attendance, perhaps add a Mass a week and some time in the adoration chapel.  Let us be ready to greet Him. Let us receive His grace. Let us be saved by Him who came to save us!
