God’s Love

By Liz Wiskowski

The Gospels during the past few weeks have shown us God’s love, His compassion, and His healing power. How can we apply this to our lives?

When Jesus healed people, everyone was looking for Him. He didn’t want people to follow Him because of His miracles. He wasn’t putting on a show. He wanted people to listen to Him. He wanted to teach them about the Kingdom of God. And He did. They learned to love Him for who He is. Do we follow Jesus only when we want something from Him? When things aren’t going well and we need His help? Or do we praise Him, thank Him, love Him everyday with our whole heart, simply because of who He is?

He showed His love and compassion when He touched the leper and said “Be made clean.” We all need to be made clean. The effects of sin touch us all, and affect us more than we realize. Go to confession and receive His healing touch. He is there waiting for us.

The paralytic needed four men to help him reach Jesus. How many people do we know who have aided us on our faith journey? Family, friends, priests, teachers, etc. Remember to thank God for all of them. Be a good example to the people you know, to help them in their faith.

Jesus was accused of associating with the wrong crowd: tax collectors and sinners. He loved them all. In our own lives, sometimes the least loveable people need our love the most. Let us approach each day with an open heart, and make some small gesture to those who are difficult or different. Jesus’ love for all compels us to do this.
