Wonderful Week

      What a wonderful week we have had! Starting on Holy Thursday, Jesus gave us the Holy Eucharist and the priesthood. On Good Friday, He spilled his blood for our sins and died on the cross. The resurrection on Easter Sunday opened the gates of heaven and the promise of eternal life.

      Each spring I see this promise of new life all around. The days are getting longer. The birds are singing a chorus in my yard. The grass is turning green and, just today, I noticed new little green leaves on several bushes near my house.

      As we celebrate the fifty days of Easter we rejoice and grow in the life of Christ. The whole world, God's creation, will burst forth with new life too. Soon the flowers will be popping out of the earth as it warms up. We will start planning our gardens, again marveling at the harvest we get.

      As we observe this rebirth all around us, let each day remind us of our rebirth and our own resurrection on the last day and rejoice. Alleluia.
