Christmas Season

By Liz Wiskowski

As I ponder over the weeks of advent, I realize what a wonderful week we had just before Christmas; The great number of people who went to confession, preparing their minds, hearts, and souls to greet the baby Jesus. I thank God for the many opportunities we had to receive this sacrament, accommodating everyone.

Then there were all of the beautiful Masses, where we share in Jesus’ death and resurrection. To receive the Eucharist in a worthy manner is the greatest blessing that I can think of. Many of us have sad, dark corners in our hearts, but with all of these blessings and graces, we can bring the light of God and a little joy to others.

Then Christmas day! My mind cannot grasp the great love He must have for us, to leave His heavenly kingdom, with all of His power and glory, to take His place among human haughtiness, violence, known to reject prophets, etc. What courage!

I have felt all of the love, kindness, and joy of the season in our church community. As this New Year begins, keep it alive. Christmas isn’t over. Make frequent confessions. Come to Mass. Drop into the chapel and talk to Jesus. Thank Him! Share with those in need. Smile. Encourage others. The more of yourself you give, the more you will receive. Have a blessed New Year, and God bless us, everyone.
