WHICH NEW YEAR?
By RH
January 1st is the beginning of the calendar year. The Liturgical (church) year begins on the 1st Sunday of Advent.
As we begin a new calendar year, most of us spend some time thinking about what we would like to accomplish during the year (lose weight, take a trip, start a new project or change jobs).
At the beginning of the Liturgical year, we spend some time thinking about and praying for the coming of Jesus as a child. We prepare our hearts and souls for this little baby boy. We are also reminded in our prayers and preparations about what Jesus was willing to go through for us. We cannot look at the Child without thinking about the suffering of the Man. We live in such a time of comfort and instant ‘everything’ that to think about what Jesus did for us is almost unconceivable.
Most businesses have a calendar year and a fiscal year. At the beginning of each, plans are made for changes to make the business better or more profitable. As we approach the new calendar year, have you thought about what you can do to make your life better? The Liturgical new year is beginning - what will you do to make your relationship with Jesus better?
Many people have already realized that when your spiritual life is on the right way, the rest of your life will also be better. We have many resources available to help us build on our personal relationship with Jesus: Confession, Mass, Adult education classes, Eucharistic Adoration, the Retreat Center and more. What will you do this year to grow in your relationship with Jesus?
