Quiet Time
By RH
Advent is a time of reflection on the coming of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
During this time of waiting and pondering, we need to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day work and Christmas preparations for a little while.
It is in these quiet times that we can place ourselves in the presence of God, to hear His words to us and to give ourselves totally to Him. During His ministry, Jesus took time away from His traveling and teaching to pray and spend time with His Father. He knew He needed that time away from His daily work just to have time to commune with His Father. If He needed to do this, how much more do we need it too? We all have a long list of things we feel need to be done. But, taking a few minutes a day to spend with God will make all these things easier to accomplish. If, after spending this time with our Father, something doesn’t get done, maybe it wasn’t so important after all.
While I am writing this, we are having a blizzard. I can’t help but feel that this is a gift of quiet from our God. Schools are closed, some businesses are closed, the mailman can’t get through, the plow hasn’t been around yet - so, we have a day of unexpected time to spend time with our family, spend time talking to God, and getting ourselves spiritually and materially ready for the birth of Jesus.
